While sorting thru my shoebox, I recently came across the two specimens in the attached photo. Both seem to measure in at perf. 12. The one on the left I feel reasonable confident is a 375; I did observe what I believe to be a partial single line watermark. The one on the right has a definite partial double line watermark...could it be? Understood that this is just opinion and the standard for 358 is certification-Thanks for looking at my post!

The paper definitively looks bluish when you put them side by side. That is a good sign. |

Thanks to you both for your response! My scanner is rather crummy, or maybe I just don't know how to get the best out of it...let me do some research on improving the quality of the image and I will post. |

To my hobbyist eye, it looks like it has potential. I would send it in for a cert. Don |

Hi thank you, hope you can get the best out of your scanner. Using a scanner took me a few months to figure out, partly because the instructions were misleading and confusing at times with terms I did not understand!
Good luck

Disi, If you can, please find and scan against an orange background, it is what makes the grey (blue) paper really stand out. Don |

Hi 51studebaker, in addition most blueish paper stamps has black spots showing on the reverse. All my examples show black spots. Orange background does help!
(blueO paper watermarks are very easy to see.

hello stampmaster and everybody,
I also read about the black spots but never understood it. Are those spots very small, like "points" that you can only see under magnification? If yes, in which magnification do they become visible? I bought cheap two bluish stamps, so there I could check this. What I found there (beside the obvious watermark and the grey paper color) is that the paper under loupe really just looks different, like a wool pullover vs a cotton shirt :). |

Many thanks to all who contributed to the thread: https://goscf.com/t/51364 started by Ricky93...the clues I needed to get better results from my scanner were all there. I don't have any photo editing software so I uploaded/edited/downloaded using Google Photos, it may have lost some resolution but it is far better than my first tries before reading the above thread. I think I am about maybe 1/3 thru my shoe box, I've looked at about 260 specimens so far, with a total of over 620 stamps as singles, blocks and strips. One thing I have learned, you can fit a lot of stamps in a shoe box. The other thing I have learned is I would have never gotten this far without the knowledge that the members of this community so generously share. Thank you all! |
