The stamp could be better, but I like it because of the neat cancel. I've looked at thousands of these old 1c blue Franklin stamps & I've never seen another with this type of cancel(I'm sure there are others). I imagine it is fairly scarce, if Scott Specialized lists the cancel, but doesn't give a value. Just thought I'd share this neat cancel!

Probably a private mail express company cancel.
If so, that's very scarce on the 1c stamp - you are correct.

I think it might wind up being "Pacific Express Co".

I looked over private express markings for ones that had "..Express Co" in the top of an oval cds, and Pacific definitely stands out as using many varieties of such.

Try Siegel Sale 1103, Lot 1676 "El Dorado", for one that's pretty close.

txstamp Wow! I can't believe you found that cancel that quick! I ran across some that were similar, but weren't a match. That cancel definitely looks very similar(if not the same)! Looks like an "O." could work at the bottom of this stamp. Thanks for the information; I will definitely make note of it with this stamp! I thought it was a neat cancel for my Franklin collection.

You can read about your postmark at the link. It is Alexander's and Simpson's book on early postal markings. Page 141 is where you want to go.

Yes, it does indeed look like a Pacific Express Co. cancel.

I would think that is one hell of a find on a 1c. Very nice item! Now, the question is whether or not you'd get a cert on it...

Thanks again everyone for the helpful information! I thought the cancel was good enough for ~$30 BIN. I already had the stamp certified & plated to Position 43R1L; B Relief, recut once at top, & twice at bottom.
