Last time I checked, "mint" meant original gum, and "NGAI" meant No Gum As Issued.

So how can this stamp, which is very clearly used, be described with both of these terms?

You'd figure that it would be one or the other, but it's actually neither.

Seeing as how these stamps were, in fact, issued with gum, of course.

Considering who the seller is, it's no surprise.

Found out what "parlor matches" referred to in the revenue were/are. They produced less of a cloud of smoke vs. what were called sulfur matches. So with a heavy smoker working on his stamp collection way back when, I can see where a lot of stamp oxidation could come from.

The only m&m's issued without gum were the wrappers. All the adhesives were issued with gum, for obvious reasons. Since they were not required to be canceled if placed where they would be torn when opening the package, all M&M's with no gum are considered used.
