This post is titled "Decimal Varieties and Errors" but as I couldn't find an equivalent Pre-Decimal maybe this post should be ammended to Australian Varieties and Errors.

Anyway, as I have started doing a more extensive listing of my stamps (never done before) I will post various varieties and errors and hope others will do also. It will give all an example of the particular variety/error which I believe is rather invaluable for reference (if you haven't actually seen one before, especially for those horrible retouches).

To start off with here is my example of the 1959 4d Birth of the Post Office (SG332) with roller flaw on second "F" of "OFFICE" (BW374d).

1970 30c Captain Cook Bi-Centennial

Three examples shown, the normal stamp and then two others. In regard to the "double spear" I now can't be certain of what the stamp is meant to look like.

In making up the aborigines, spear and dashes (below) there appears to be three colours used: red, grey-green, black. Using grey-green as the correctly positioned colour example 2 and 3 differ in that -

(2) has red shifted upwards - this can be seen best with the dashes and only just seen at top of spear and aborigine with shield. Note the black has moved with the red but is missing from two dashes.

(3) has red shifted downwards and black has shifted even further but only in the spear!

I assume that would make example 3 the "double spear". But if that is the case what does that make example 2 as there is two dash lines instead of one, a red and black line Note the lines are in reverse order to example 3.

As confused as I am? Note the red splodge between roo and dash doesn't move in all three examples!

Is example 3 the "double spear" and example 2 another variation - listed or unlisted - or what is the case?

These have been posted before, but here they are for the record.

This is the light pink car variety.

ACSC says this variety exists in one position on the sheet, but the detail pictures are clearly from different positions.

Sorry, I can't add any more details at the moment as our power goes off in 5 minutes - and the outside temperature is -22C.

Good One itma! Locate as many as possible under the one thread.

Don't fancy your night, we're having to put up with mid to high 30C here - bit of a difference.

And I agree with you regarding the cricketer...

1976 Australian Explorers 18c John Oxley (SG616)
- retouch over sail boat -
My old ACSC has it positioned LP R2/2 which is where it fits on my strip of 2 x 10
However it doesn't mention anything about the 'retouch' to the right over Oxley's hair.

1972 80c Pioneer Life (SG529)
According to my old ACSC:
- LP R6/2 retouch lower right -
- LP R7/2 retouch off bow -
Note: I don't see anything off the bow but there is a large retouch (or 'bullet hole') in the water lower right
- LP R9/2 retouch left of 80c -
- LP R10/1 retouch below "P" in "Pioneer" -

It also gave me an opportunity to find out how to re-use the images I had previously posted.

Re our temperatures, we went down to under -30C and 36 hours later it was +15C

Frank.
