Questions On Steiner Access & Printing

To start, I know very little about the "Steiner pages" - I am a newbie in that regard.

- Can a Steiner page be accessed on my home computer, and printed on Scott 8 1/2 x 11 quadrille pages on my home printer?

- If so, how do I go about accessing/buying the Steiner pages?

You pay for a yearly subscription (download what you want) or get a CD with all pages or both.

He has pages created for most of the world following Scott catalogue organization in most cases.

They are in PDF format (8.5x11 size pages) so you can print them on your local computer or even send to a local printer to print.

I print my Steiner pages on 32 lb paper. Others use heavier paper. Not sure why you would want to print on quadrille pages, but they are your pages so go for it.

Should you buy the CD, you can have the world Album pages on your Hard Drive.

Oh, I said I would print on the Scotts quadrille pages as I have several packs of them. Otherwise it would be blank Scotts pages.................

I think getting the CD is a no-brainer.

Price has recently jumped up to $75 for the CD. Was recently only about $20 or $30.




Keep in mind, you will need a wide-format printer to print on those pages (unless you want to try to fold the pages). Otherwise, most people just print on heavy-weight 8.5 x 11 paper.

The CD alone is $50. $75 is for the CD and a year membership.

YIKES, I think my printer will handle the oversize paper.......... if not, I'll just have to cut it down.

Although I haven't used Steiner pages, I do print my own. I do feel that the results on quadrille paper may not be satisfactory. Your printer has to feed the paper in very accurately to avoid having the page artifacts print at a slight angle to the quadrille. Also, the page's printed border is unlikely to fall evenly over the quadrille.

The only reason I can see for buying quadrille is for easy alignment if the stamps. That function Becomes redundant as it is taken over by the Steiner page. Your best bet is to take rod222 up on his offer of samplemages so you can try it for yourself.

No question, you are telling it like it is. I bought the quadrille as I use it to hinge/label stamps not otherwise on the Scotts pages. I imagine I will still use some of them.

But the Steiners will very likely end up needing blank sheets. I'll experiment of course, but I can see it ending up that way.

Steiner has a variety of blank page that allows you to print different number of lines of text for titles. He also has blank quadrille pages, all of which have matching borders.

So, those will be your best bet to make everything match.

That's good to know - and I will likely be using them.

I've been printing Steiner pages, and use 110 lb Card Stock pages. The card stock pages are nice and heavy.
I get a pack of 150 pages at Wally World for $4-$5 per pack.

This is exactly the thing I have been working on over Christmas. I downloaded and installed Stamp Page Creator, which is open source software for creating stamp album pages from sourgeforce - I found out about this software from Rod22 to give him credit where it is due - and a search of this forum brings up more information on the use of this software with Steiner pages. I installed it Christmas eve so it would run under the Opera browser, but you can use any one of the popular browsers that you would like.

I find this program easy to use - but I have not got the experience of using it on a real world album like Rod22 and others here in this forum have. I have been thinking quite a lot about all the multiple larger issues around building your own custom album pages - obvious problems like how to mount the stamps to less obvious ones like making a necessary change that could cause multiple revisions of succeeding pages.

I highly suggest that if you are thinking of printing your own album pages, whether custom, Steiner pages, or some other solution that you read his guide, he hits many of the issues that I have been thinking about squarely on the head, I found his discussion very thoughtful and well worth reading.

Now I am on the fence, design my own custom pages, or take the easier route of purchasing the cd of Steiner's pages. I will most likely purchase the cd as designing your own custom pages is a massive task fraught with sinkholes and traps, again, Jim Griffith does an excellent job of going over this. I will probably use a hybrid approach maintaining consistency.
