Hello julsscott - No, it is perf. 10 on all sides, so not a 423a. But keep looking - they are very rare, but you may stumble across one! Always assume you have the most common stamp unless verified.

Yes, the 423a IS perf. 12 x 10. Your stamp is perf. 10 x 10. The perforation is NOT how many perforations are on a side, but is how many perforations are within 2 centimeters length. You need a perforation gauge to measure the perforation on each side.

The Chicago precancel is not uncommon, and that includes the inverted precancel.

This also to me looks like a sc#423. it looks like the right time and on PSE there were similar graded postcards. thoughts?

Check the perforations, they appear the same on all sides.

You're absolutely right don! 12x12 ! I have too many of this stamp and im a bit disorganized. I think I have a 538 on a Cover. but most I have found are perf 12 perf 11 or perf 10.
