Hi @Kris Rascher
I have two of these postal stamps. One with margin and one with no margins.
I notice that on a postage stamp younger. :)
Thanks for sharing. Best regards

Hi @KlausR
As far as I can see, there are more postal stamps here that can be seen on a butterfly tie (Especially the last row Danmark).
Thank you for sharing postal stamps on this thematic.
Best regards

The poet and man of letters Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) was one of the great French classical authors. Most of us will know his fables such as the one about the wolf and the lamb, pictured at the bottom of the stamp, 1938. Fontaine wore a fancy neck scarf, perhaps of silk, since he was a man of means.

Hi @Kris Rascher
Yes, that looked like a fashion detail at that time. Very nice stamp. I like these stamps (much dashes and dots).
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards

Hi @KlausR
Very nice postal stamps. I like this brown-red "denomination 5 GRONLAND" especially this "Danmark denomination 90, 1805-1875".
I have one question for you.

What is the term correct?

"bow tie" or "butterfly tie"

and

"cravat" or "tie"?

best regards

@johnc

For that kind of questions I consult dictionaries like Merriam-Webster:

Bow tie: a short necktie tied in a bowknot
Butterfly tie: The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary.

Cravat: a band or scarf worn around the neck
Tie: transitive and intransitive verb
Necktie: a narrow length of material worn about the neck and tied in front

So the correct terms for the items shown on theose stamps would be bow tie and necktie.

Back to your question re: Liberia 10c: the driver wears a necktie, that's why I put the stamp.

Klaus

Hi @KlausR
Thanks for information.
In Croatian language speech (in folk language speech), it is common to pronounce the "butterfly tie". Because there are parts that resemble the wings of a butterfly.

Liberia 10c: Now much clearer, I thought that was so, but I was not sure.
I suspected he accidentally found himself in the picture.

Japan issued a stamp honoring Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) based on the portrait painted by Joseph Carl Stieler (1781-1858). In this portrait the composer is working on his 'Missa Solemnis'. His neck scarf is probably made of very fine cloth.

(Hello Klaus, It would be so nice to know just a little more about the people on your stamps. Many of them I cannot read. Thank you. K.)
