I dont have the item in hand otherwise I would use my gauge. I guess what im wondering is if there is an accurate way to count the perforation holes in order to determine perf 10, 11 etc. |

Would be a bit difficult without knowing what stamp it is. Can you not ask the seller?

I'm guessing that Phil doesn't want to show the face because he doesn't want any added competition in the auction.
Assuming that this is a standard-sized U.S. definitive, it looks like 10x11 to me, but you really need a gauge for a reliable measurement. |

The type of perforations shown were made by a bar and wheel perforator that was used for Stickney rotary press printed sheet stamps. The clue is in the horizontal perforations that do not fully perforate across the sheet margin. Possible gauges are 10 x 11, 10 x 10, 11.25 x 10.5 If flat plate 11 x 11 perforations occurred then both the horizontal and vertical perforations would fully go across the sheet margins. Also the wavy horizontal cut was done by a bar and wheel perforator in order to separate the printed web paper roll into sheets. See https://goscf.com/t/56242 |

I'll be interested to hear the verdict on this block, because even though it looks like perf 10 on the top and bottom (as #612 should be), the vertical perfs sure seem to me to be more closely spaced (and not just because of the angle of the photograph). |
