Floortrader - Same here. I bid on quite a few lots and bid realistically but over and over the minute enthusiasm was shown for a given lot it felt as if there would be no top. I do not let emotions get the better of me but it does tick me off at times. |

First ---I need a night to sleep this off.
Second -----I should be happy because this auction showed me that my 60 years of buying stamps was ok ,because their value is stronger than I thought .
Third -----I did get something to add to my collection so I purchased entertainment and some fun time working with new material .
Fourth -------All the time spend on organization much like Dr. Ott pays off in the end . His inventory of Red Boxes brought strong returns . |

Quote:[-I know Jimmy [the owner of N.Y.Stamps} and watched him bid for many years at various auctions . I even got yelled at by the girl who now handles his bidding at the auctions . I cost him quite a bit of money over the years and figured out his buying patterns and in turn they P.O. me a few times and cost me higher prices . They buy so much material at each auction that I am now sure he is buying for someone overseas and / selling it thru a fake wall so nobody can track his buying to his selling .He is buying over a million dollars each year for over 20 years and his numbers on ebay at not close to those numbers ,so its going somewhere ? If you know him you would know his name is Ji. =More importantly, where are you getting your claim his ebay numbers are not close to enough to his buying numbers. I just checked part of what he sold today and got tired of counting at over $2200 and I didn't count any of the many many China lots. |

I checked NYstamps ebay sales for the last 3 months. They sold over 46,000 lots at an average price of $27 for total sales of approximately $1.3M. Pretty impressive, I worked hard to sell 600 items in the sale period, he must have quite an operation. |

With that volume no wonder there are description errors in both directions. And no wonder he has to feed the beast with truck loads of bulk material to process. |

KRELYEA---Oooops we are discussing something totally different like apples and oranges . They are buying something different and what your looking at is different . Sorry were not on the same page to have a discussion . For everybody else NYSTAMPS are acting like a vacuum cleaner buying bulk lots ,junk lots and collections from the auction houses in the U.S. and they been doing this for 15 years ......but guess what????? they are not listing and selling it on ebay .......so if you don't believe me .......go and look at their completed sales on ebay ......guess what .....their sell better and high catalog stuff like very nice U.S. material ........post back after you check this out ,then you could slap me around if I am wrong . |

Floor - I don't understand. You were the one that wrote "They buy so much material at each auction that I am now sure he is buying for someone overseas and / selling it thru a fake wall so nobody can track his buying to his selling". Why do you think it is "buying for someone overseas and / selling it thru a fake wall so nobody can track his buying to his selling"? Last I heard (which was quite a few years ago and may or may not still be going on), he was exporting some stuff to China. This is normal business practice and not some effort to hide what is going on. |

My question: the big auction houses (siegel, Kelleher, et al)...do they only let you internet bid through the SAN? I tried exploring the SAN website and found it not very helpful (but this post is not about how crappy that website is).

Not sure what the issue with SAN is. Just register, click on firms you wish to bid with, and wait for approval. You will need references since you are bidding based upon your honest intention to pay. Rasdale and Cherrystone have their own bidding platforms. There may be others. |
