Why is it risky to send it in for a cert? Many thousands of items are sent in to the PF, APEX, and PSE every year. The items are then examined by some of the top philatelic experts in the world; all with many decades of experience. FAR more experience then the average collector. Plus they have significant reference collections at hand to make direct comparisons. And this site is not populated with "bitter old men" but with many very knowledgeable people, both amateur and professional. The fact is that for every 1,000,000 people who think they have a 613, perhaps one person actually does. Perhaps. I really don't know why this fact is so difficult to comprehend. |

On page 5 member cfrphoto supplied an easy test and one that would only cost a few dollars to do. Personally I would follow this advice. As he also mentioned, sending it in for a certification is an avoidable expense. |

The expertise on this forum has always been extremely helpful to me in learning about many varieties of stamps. In my opinion, short of going to the PF or PSE, this is the place you will find some of the best knowledge in the world on US stamps. Just because you want to believe doesn't make it so. Look carefully at what people have said here and you will learn. Depending on the design measurement is a fundamental mistake. Believing that offset is as common on rotary stamps as flat press is a mistake. You can learn things here because people here have decades of experience buying and selling stamps and have held in their hands many rare items. Be skeptical, but don't waste your money on a cert for a stamp that everyone already knows won't work out. |

I was not recommending the item be submitted, just asking why "it is risky". |

Goinpostal was looking for concurrence, not opinions. When that was not forthcoming we were called bitter old men and douche bags. How utterly childish. |

I think that you would have to be right about that one. If I only could afford the service. One of these days I will have enough money to send my stamps in for cert. Until then im stuck on stamps. |

You're back. Before anyone gives you a comment about the most recent pictures, please tell us how your submissions went. If you got a good cert, then you have a great find that should be posted here for all to see. |

I wish I had the funds to send stamps for certs. Unfortunately I am a single father and barely make ends meet. Sometimes it seems like I will ever be able to. |

The story behind my stamp collection is kinda unbelievable but it's true and they are worth sending in for certs. Someday.
