Hello Everyone! Just found this in an old album; the color is "off", superbly centered and on wider than normal wove paper. Is it a used counterfeit?

Commonly referred to as "oxidized." Actually, sulfur in the air or what it was stored in reacts with the chemicals in the red pigments and turns them brown. Dipping it in Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) may bring back most or all of the original color.

Thanks-figured it was a Changeling, but the printing doesn't appear to be engraved (it looks flat, and has gobs of ink in places), and it's much wider than the other small queens with it. If it's Genuine then is it worth grading for a Jumbo certification?

Grading is a combination of centering AND soundness. Damaged upper corner and horizontal crease at the bottom. Not sound, so certainly not worth grading.

It is engraved, and looks very obviously engraved from the scan. Perhaps you need to examine this with at least a 10x magnifier. "Gobs of ink" can happen with engraving for a variety of reasons.

I assume you mean the stamp margins and not the designs. Even wider ones exist as do very narrow ones with both sides cutting into the design. Perforating machinery was not perfect in that era.

A good resource for plating Queens is Flyspecker.com; we should have the plating of this soon. There are several Jumbos on line there (a LOT more that I would have thought existed). Thanks everyone for your thoughts and help!

#25 is a Large Queen. Your stamp is a badly oxidized Small Queen either #37 or #41. You would need to clean it up to find out which one it is.
