This is a souvenir that I sent to my grandmother from Sydney when I had a chance to visit the first time in 1971. Australian stamps are outside my area of collecting but could someone give me a Scott's number for this one please? Thanks.

I spent a year and a half in Vietnam and the first time I visited Australia was in July 1971. It was a bit of a shock to the system coming from summer in Nam to 47 degrees F in Sydney. The first thing I did was buy a sweater so that I could survive the cold. But then I had a chance to make up for it by spending Christmas in '71 in Sydney and laying by the hotel pool when it was 86 degrees F.

Hi John,

Scott #435

Aaah, Sydney when it was (relatively) young. It's a FAR cry from those days......

Thanks Bobby. I stay up to date on pics from Sydney. I'd love to go back if I ever win the lottery. When I was there Australia Square was the tallest thing in town. But the building boom had started. There were holes for foundations and tall cranes all over the place.

Happy to help John. Sydney is a mess at the moment. Just a huge construction site.

Nice memories.
I was there during the build of the Opera House.

I went to Sydney last year. There was a lot of construction and you can't see the waterfront because of all of the buildings but it was a lovely city. The quay and waterfront was wonderful from the water side. We were there during some event and many of the buildings, Opera House, and bridge were lit up by colorful lights. It is a great memory.

There are a lot of fond memories of my 2 trips there. Unfortunately I only a week each time so there were limits on what I could fit in. I always remember Christmas Day taking one of the hydrofoil ferries all the way to Manly just to walk around some. And then that same week watching the start of the Sydney-Hobart yacht race from out on the harbor.
