I was looking through ebay and found this lot as a buy it now or best offer lot. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canada-3...123232642078The asking price is US$65 (approx C$ 85). I am in the UK and just out of curiosity I am wondering if any collectors in Canada would consider paying this sort of price for a relatively common stamp Unitrade = C$8.00. Does that grading and cert really make it worth 10 times cat ? I will watch the B.I.N. sale until it ends in 15 days just to see what happens. AQ

That seller has many Canadian stamps listed with certifications from PSE and crazy pricing for non-rare issues. Does seem odd the seller and cert company are in the same town (Henderson, NV) but perhaps just a coincidence.
Example, Scott #294 for $70 USD! With Unitrade at $12 CAD for NH-VF. |

For US stamps, this is not atypical. Considering the centering, sound condition and certificate, these prices don't seem to be unreasonable. Just need to find buyers.... |

Interesting that the seller says it grades 85 in his listing, but the PSE Certificate doesn't grade the stamp. |

There seem to be several sellers offering British Colonial stamps with PSE certificates at more than 10 times the normal price. It is perfectly legal to charge whatever you want on ebay. However, it seems like a really bad idea to pay that kind of premium for a relatively common stamp. |

Quote: The asking price is US$65 (approx C$ 85). No, it's not. The seller just wants offers. As I've said on here probably dozens times.... this is just the ebay version of "Make me an offer." ebay requires you to put in a BIN price when you want offers so sellers put in one that no one will pay so they can collect offers for a while. Completely legitimate and effective practice employed by thousands of sellers big and small. Nothing unscrupulous about it at all. |

I did not know that !
I am not sure it is a good selling option as for a very common stamp I do not think the cert adds much value. If I wanted it I would probably offer $10 max but would then think that there was no way this would be excepted and just not bother. I have actually done (not done ??) this in the past.

That was my thought - an offer price should be in the bounds of commonsense, or the viewer will just move on. |

I will offer the seller 50c for the stamp and let you know how it worked out. Anyone want to make a guess? Well it doesn't matter. ebay won't let me make a 50c offer, and that is about all it is worth to me. So I guess someone else will have to test the theory. |

I just tried a $1.00 offer and it was instantly rejected so the seller must have set a limit on what they would accept. I guess they just hope someone will offer more than their lowest real selling price. I guess they think that this is more effected than just holding an auction with a realistic start price.

I am puzzled by the negative comments on this thread.
My Unitrade 2009 has this stamp at $10.00 for NH-VF. There is an $8 price also noted above, but not sure from what year.
THIS stamp is graded at 98, which is at the high end of the quality spectrum, so something north of $8-10 would be expected for the centering alone, regardless of whether one believes in paying for grading. Higher quality gets higher price. Easy!
An offer of $1 is laughable. I would be embarrassed to make such an insulting offer or to admit to it. |

I'm pretty sure this is being sold by a member of the PSE Staff, Caj Brejtfus. |
