Found this stamp with a red cancel from an old collection. The date was filled in by hand. Was it common back in old days? The cancel looks like from Tell City Indiana. Can we get the year of this cancel? Any comments are welcome.

Not common, but I wouldn't add any value for it.

It seems to be often a smaller PO would sometimes do this.

I agree that it doesn't add any real value. There are enough of these out there that if someone wants one, they are quite obtainable.

let's see -
3ish margins (tough to tell how wide the right margin is in the scan) and cut into the design at top, so not "fine" condition; More like VG?
short perf at the top, that's a flaw;
no apparent grill;
pretty red cancellation;
nothing else I can see, but assuming no thins or tears or creases...

worth $100? - maybe. However, I think you might have a bit of a slog trying to sell that stamp at that price (retail - not to a dealer). $70 might be more likely to sell retail, and $50 to a dealer.

chipg: Thanks a lot for your comment. I will lower the price little by little until someone is willing to pay. It is just like the Dutch Auction. :)
