Hi All

I am getting more and more frustrated with the Scott's Catalogues because of their 'set' values and not listing individual values. For example, I have a set of marine life from the BAT (British Antarctic Territories) Scott #102-16 used, which is at $37.00 in my 2011 edition. Now, my main concern is this: Let's just say, for the sake of mathematics, that each stamp has an average value of $1.23. That's all well and good; however, let's assume somebody wanted the 1 Penny and the 1£ value. Obviously, the 1 penny stamp catalogue value would not be near as much as the higher values (as a rule and forgetting the average value) and the 1£ value should be over the average as a rule. In a similar situation, how would you negotiate a value of you wanted to trade / sell them??
I am seriously considering the online world catalogue at instead of Scott's in the future. Here is their website:

What do you folks think. Your input is appreciated.

There is no free lunch. Stampworld harvests email addresses and if you read their T&Cs you will see they reserve the right to sell your information.

If you do use stampworld - their prices are retail,

Bujutsu,

Go to ebay "sold" listings. This will give you at least an indicator.

I use stampworld for values widely (applying discount from retail of course). No evidence they've sold my email address, haven't received any spam. Also use my stamp program for values (those need to be substantially discounted), which is often easier because they use Scott #s. Between the two, can figure out values fairly easily.

I suppose that the reason that for some sets of stamps that they only have values for the set as a whole is that the stamps are almost only sold as a set, not as individual stamps. So there is no established market price for the individual stamps.

If the stamps were mostly sold as sets, that would imply that the £1 stamp is just as common as the 1d stamp, so would be not be valued much higher than it.

Sets that are usually only sold as full sets are an annoyance to me when only one stamp in the set is relevant to my topical collections.

In my limited foray into topicals, I have just bought the whole set and stored the remainder in a stockbook so that the set can be put back together later.

Thanks all for your input. To be honest, I can't see a 1 Pound stamp being the same CV as a 1 Penny though. Anyway, I'll consider all the input in here, and, thanks again.
