Has anyone used this and it works. I tried it once but I don't think I did it right.

Requires at least 1200 dpi which my phone only does 72.

I wrote/build the tool, and I can say it works all OK (and even beyond)

Because the way digital images work, you should never ever use images which are taken by phone camera with digital perforation gauges. The problem here is that the properties of such stamp image vary depending on factors such as distance you are shooting, the angle you shooting, zoom etc.

What you should use to take a picture of a stamp are image/document scanner of some sorts.

I have used in the past and still often use Keijo's perf gauge and find it's a fantastic tool.

I have successfully used this tool to check the perfs on ebay items prior to bidding. It is particularly useful when trying to identify scarce varieties in sets such as the Southern Rhodesia 1931 "Field Marshals" issued with multiple perforations. One caveat is that one has know the image resolution, generally it is 300,600 or 1200 dpi. But to confirm, I use the "measure dimensions" feature of the tool to first check the stamp dimensions.

I found that it is straightforward enough to use, although it took me a few minutes to realise that one needs to "rotate" the image in order to measure the side perforations - actually I cheated and watched the How-to Video which is probably helpful for anyone having difficulty understanding how to use it.

@Clive... I use it for measuring online/auction items at times too. In the end this use is not much different from counting perfs manually except easier & maybe bit more accurate.

I do have lots of plans for the next version (getting rid of manual rotation, adding (optional) semi-automated perf recognition, doing round stamps etc stuff I have thought of in these 3 years). But that might be long time coming as life seems to be keeping me busy year after year.
