@floortrader Quote:This garbage of calling someone a expert because of something they read in a catalog is nothing new , they are just a "CHAT ROOM CATALOG QUEEN " , I ran into them 17 years ago on the ebay chat room when they start calling each other "EXPERTS" ,yea experts on reading the info from different catalogs . Now over the years as more information is loaded on to the internet now we are seeing a new kind of member on the chat boards ,these are the " INTERNET QUEENS " they are the new experts we see here, they are experts as long as they can find it on a website . Never do you see them answer a question from their own material ,it is always a link or a photo off the internet . Another point is those who (like the OP) think that the so-called experts issuing Certificates are infallible, are wrong. At least I can tell for Indian and IFS materials, there is history of crap certs issued by both BPA and RPS. |

an expert would say.
bearing in mind that i'm looking at a picture on a computer and I do NOT have the actual stamp in hand.
my oppinion would that the top 2.nd left perf has the attached to the stamp to repair it. the stamp and cancel it self is genuine, BUT 1 perf has been manipulated.
i think it's a GOOD service to provide to tell someone who knows less than you, that their stamps aren't perhaps as good as the think, or even completely wrong - just make sure you're absolutely correct, and that you say it with class - publicly, others will learn. if done with class there would be no reason to react like the OP, he should instead considder it a service provided for free. and bring this knowledge back to where he purchased the stamp.
to me this is a reaction of irritation, because he most likely overpaid by a lot and purchased without the proper knowledge.
and I do not think the OP is correct in his gloryfication of the experts and their little pieces of paper. Everyone makes mistakes, and every expert has done so countless times.

I have been following this thread with interest. I have not worked much on my US stamps but through all the back and forth between the different posters, I have learned a lot on what to look at when IDing stamps. And that info can be used on stamps for other countries as well.
I'd like to thank all those that offer their opinions on stamps and am in awe of the depth of knowledge I have seen on this board. I also enjoy and appreciate seeing the stamps shown by other collectors.
I will continue learning with everyone's help.
Thank you everyone.

Though, somewhat different in nature, I get upset when I read something like this, in this case J58 descriptions from Siegel:
This stamp is the key to any meaningful collection of the Postage Due issues. Meaningful to whom? Auction houses relying on 18% rakes? |

Thank you everyone. This post is wildly off-topic. And therefore disturbing... When replying to this post, rational, intelligent, & thoughtful comments - written with a sense of kindness - are clearly not called for. This is an outrage. Please review the site's rules and the topic of the thread. Only comments that are negative or making reference to underwear should be posted. With a bit of cooperation, we can continue to have dumb threads drag on for pages, without end, with members attacking one another. Further attempts at civility only hinder our progress. Thank you everyone. |

The photo in the cert and the cut piece are not the same item. Strange. |

Quote: The photo in the cert and the cut piece are not the same item. Ya think?? What tipped you off?? The previous two posts are seemingly a (humorous?) moronic attempt to demonstrate that certs are not all they are cracked up to be. In doing so, I believe this is a very real attempt to defraud someone - not to mention an offer to provide said illicitly-acquired funds to this site. This certainly must be in violation of the site's rules. This poster should be banned, or at the very least, suspended for an extended period of time. |

rogdcam,
The cut almost certainly came from a different example of the same U.S. souvenir card, if it in fact really does not fit.
These Zepp cuts are well-known as proof or essay wannabes, but in 1980 the German expertizer thought the 1971 cutout was an item from the 1930s.
Such shenanigans happen to similar stamp images printed in some books, for example, snippings from the 1950 Austrian Jubilee stamp celebration book. |

Methinks there may be some solar wind activity affecting electronic devices, as apparently there are widespread incidents of people's humor and sarcasm detectors needing extensive recalibration. |
