I am stumped on this on. I am guessing a perfin that was not completed by the comb/machine?
I am sure the experts will tell me.
I haven't done detailed identification, but its somewhere close to being a #98

Looking forward to the responses and learning from you.

Theses are known as blind perfins and are usually caused when the perforation needles do not penetrate all the way through the sheet stacks, this is a common occurrence with these perfins, I have double perfins, triple perfins, inverted perfins, inverted double perfins and blind perfins in my collection.

And after further examination the perforation is 12 x 12 and the details of the crown indicate Die I ... so I am leaning strongly with New South Wales #98.
Now for the perfin letters...

Hi Turtle2900

You actually have Die II.

Die 1 would show the first pearl on the left side of the crown merging into the arch, otherwords, absorbing most of the pearl, giving an impression that only 5 pearls exist on the left side.

Die II shows all 6 pearls intact with the first pearl on the left circular, the pearls on the left side of the crown with your stamp shows all 6 pearls intact and the first pearl circular.

Rob

Thank you Rob and Fairdinkum !
Very helpful and interesting. I gues I was confused about Type I and the pearl and also just how open the "S" is.
Will examine more.

I do not have that particular stamp so I cannot compare the distance of the "S".

I thought "ha" might work instead of "LOL" since the SCF rules say no such abbreviations. Thanks again for all of your help Rob. Much apprecaited.

There are plenty of collectable flaws on these stamps, as well as an interesting range of shades, watermarks and perforation varieties. Also some great UV reactions!
