I am selling, what for me is a fair amount, on ebay. Most are stamps but a few other incidentals. I am somewhat surprised at the lack of feedback. My guess is something less than 5% of my sales have feed back response. The question for other sellers, is that normal? I go overboard on packaging and generally ship the same day as sold even on the occasional 1¢ winners. Is there anything to be done to increase the, hopefully, positive response percentage? Thanks for looking.

I'd say (finger in the air) that my rate is more like 40-50%. Perhaps people here are more polite!
I don't think it's a good idea to pester people for feedback - as increasingly happens to me in certain shops these days. |

I think one has a better chance of getting feedback if the seller gives a positive evaluation first upon reception of the payment instead of waiting for the buyers response before giving an evaluation. |

I get well over 50% - and in the past I indeed have pestered. Why? Because it's rude when I do everything to please a buyer - and take the risk of giving feedback before hearing from the buyer. On ebay your feedback rating is a key credibility measure. And you should work towards building that measure. |

The problem is not the seller's packaging or service. As many have discussed before in other threads, many ebay users find the current feedback system worthless and a waste of time and decline to participate in it. Don't pester buyers for feedback. Don't lose sleep over it. Get on with life. |

I have avoided it at all costs for the last few years and would never, ever ask a buyer to use it. Sellers who pester me to use the ebay Feedback system often do not get another purchase from me. As such, the percentage of feedbacks for my transactions is <15%. Don |

Although I started out in 1999 buying and selling stamps, it has morphed into many other items over the years. I'm currently getting around 40%, maybe a bit more in feedback responses. |

From the other side of the coin, I have been a buyer only on ebay for quite a few years. I pay immediately, leave positive feedback as soon as the purchase is received, but have to chase sellers for their feedback on at least a third of the transactions. By leaving feedback for the buyer, sellers let other sellers know that a certain buyer is reliable. |

I agree with Don, I don't like the system but I leave Feedback automatically upon payment because buyers value it. In the last 30 days I sold 250 items and got 168 feedbacks. I was surprised it was this high because I don't pay any attention to it and would NEVER pester a buyer for Feedback.

My policy is very simple. I leave positive feedback on sales as soon as I get paid. I leave it on purchases within a few days of receipt and I haven't checked to see if the other party has reciprocated in over 12 years.
But I have 115,300 positive feedbacks (56922 unique) and a few missing or additional ones don't really matter. |

5% is very low " I go overboard on packaging" - perhaps this is the problem if you are overpackaging and using too much tape |

I'm running at around 70% or so on the sell side. My policy is also to leave feedback for a buyer as soon as payment is made...the buyer has fulfilled their obligation and I won't hold feedback hostage waiting for theirs. That said, if a seller holds my feedback hostage after payment is made, there's no way in hell I leave them feedback when the item arrives (in the hope they reciprocate). |

Raw feedback numbers don't mean anything for buyers or sellers. It's just a "look at me!" badge. Thus, I don't chase feedback or even keep track of the percentages... as either buyer or seller.
Put bluntly: Feedback quantity is not important.
EDIT: Feedback percentage, on the other hand is important. |

I always give feedback even if it is considered useless. I have a very positive experience at ebay. I can only recall one seller that annoyed me. |
