It's a 189 Enfield - well worn and not rated. I wanted it to be a 581 (rated RR) but the rays patterns are different to the 189 in the scan.

Bobby, I'm not sure that it is Enfield - the rays under the 8 don't match in position or angle. Would still like to see a clearer scan to decide.

Hanging Rock is rated S (31-49 examples recorded)

You are correct Bobby - Rated S for scarce.

Hi fairdinkumstamps,

May I ask what you are comparing Mr Stampede's suggested 189 with? Freeman's example used in his book is heavily overinked.

Here's mine:

This type of cancel was superceded in the sequence at number 374. I'm sure we can agree that the first (or last) two digits of Mr Stampede's example are a 1 and an 8. This leaves us with 181, 281 and 180 to 189.

Distortions do occur depending on the force and/or angle of the strike.

Stampede,
I would not brag about deleting posts and breaking the threads in other forums. It is bad form. For that reason there are safeguard in place to prevent users from trashing the forum by going back and deleting their posts here. Another thing that causes problems for a forum is excessive drama. We have better things to do than police users who make a lot more work for us, the Moderators here are volunteers.

When you post, simply ask yourself if the post is going to create drama. Nothing wrong with generating educational debate, just curb the emotional crap. This thread has been on the edge of locking for days; it has remained open only because it has some educational value.

You are not off to a good start here.

No problem, you have now been banned from more than one forum. Enjoy the silence.

I have no idea what you are referring to. Regardless of what the forum is, deleting images just to get back at members is not only bad sport but very juvenile.

And I was right your the same trolls from that website boards downunder who like to pick on newbies like you did down there. So it doesnt suprise me once you found me here you would do the same . I thought you guys had a life at least I can keep my word unlike the duds that cant ( you know who you are)

I am not a troll, nor am I on the other forum a troll, I too was targeted but unlike you I approached the problem intelligently now there is no more problem, there is always debate but that is part of what forums are about.

I have never picked on a newbie, not only do I help them as is shown many times on this forum but others as well, I also supply them with stamps or if necessary stock books.

And how could I find you, I didn't even know you existed or on another forum until I read from this forum that you were also on another forum so I did a little research and that's how I found you on another forum.

You have not yet responded to my recent post when I asked you to quote me on any comment I have made where I had broken a promise, and I am going to hold you at your word.

Okay I wanna meet up pick a time and a place and ill make it happen
Im there I mean it.
Maybe we can sort this beef you have with me.

Also in attendance will be renown experts Michael Drury (expertiser in KGV stamps), Dr. Geoff Kellow (editor of the ACSC and an international expert on Australian stamps, especially the QV stamps), if he is available Dr. Scott Starling (also a national expert in KGV stamps). Mr Gordon Towell is an expert on KGV cancellations (he has 30,000 of them on just the red 1d alone).

If you have a fortune in stamps they will be the guys to confirm that claim, it's a small group of professional collectors and one is an auctioneer (Status International).

You can watch me give a short presentation of my "common" 1959 imperforate 5d Blue

The youngest member is my fiancée and she is 44 years old, so you will have to sit through 1½ hours of talking, and then you will have the opportunity of meeting the experts, I'll be there to confirm what they say.

There is no beef, just transparency,

See you there.

My common stamp, read the rarity status on the certificate.

Bobby, Yours is a great example of the strike.

Check underneath the 1 and 8 on yours (and Hugh Freeman's example) and you will see that starting from the ray touching the base of the 1, there are three more until you pass the 8. Then look at the example shown on the 1d shield from Mr. Stampede and notice that starting from the ray touching the base of the 1, there are just two more until you pass the 8.

Below are the stamp in question and your fine example.

It's an interesting difference and it would have been nice to see a clearer scan.

Well done fairdinkumstamps, brilliant comparison

Now I'm wondering if the device was recut &/or suffered damage some time between 1888 and 1897? The spacing between the numerals seems similar and some of the rays still correspond, ie: the two at the top left of the '1'

To my eyes at least, the only other feasible numbers would be 183 or 188, both of which were replaced by 3R16 types, which the 189 was not.
