There are lots and lots of rare and supper rare cancels on Canadian stamps...Here is one that would almost be impossible to find.

The town of Mount Pearl in Newfoundland had postal station called Mount Pearl Sub NO.1...It was opened Oct.18th,1966 and closed 8 days latter on Oct.26th,1966...See attachment below.

Below is the house that was used for a Sub Station for 8 days only..Obviously it was changed to a residential property.

If anyone comes across one, I will gladly purchase it for my Newfoundland collection.

Is there any proof that it ever truly opened?
I would have serious doubts.

Good question John

Quote:
PO perm. closed 1966-10-26 due to the resignation of the PM

Apparently Mrs. Dorothy Parsons was assigned as the post master and, then she resigned..So, I would assume that the 8 days in office, they MUST have canceled some letters.

I still doubt. Consider the era. The PO department appoints her and mails her various documents. She declines the appointment for some reason and mails it all back. Takes a week to get through the mail both ways. The office has an employee on paper, but in reality probably never opened/operated. I would be seeking a newspaper article of the opening or a record of postal receipts to document actual operations.

Wert - you make a good case - and point. However there were many many small post offices in Canada - now long closed - where there are very very few extant covers. That situation makes a terrific collecting area. I commend those for example who collect railway post office cancels.

I made an effort to capture some of those closing offices in Nova Scotia. Here are two. I can assure you few people in Nova Scotia or in philately are aware of Sydney -Whitney Pier or Sydney - Subway. The latter was unknown to a Sydney area historian I spoke to about this a decade or two ago.

Good covers CanadaStamp

Here are two details for both Sydney Subway postal station opening and closing dates.

I still believe that the Mount Pearl Sub NO.1 is still the shortest opened postal station in Newfoundland and maybe in Canada to.
