Good day all.

In regards to late-19th century revenues (e.g. Battleship Revenue Series of 1898)... have I correctly captured, named, and categorized all known cancellation types used?

Manuscript (pen)
Print (typeset; stencil)
Handstamp
Embossed
Cut (perfin; punch; die/head; pin; herringbone; circle; line)

Wondering if punchouts like perfins, pins, die/head-cuts, etc. should be separated into their own category?

Any/all expertise and correction is most welcome!

are you aware of "the battleship desk reference: a study of proprietary battleship revenue stamps and their cancellations" by R. Mustacich and A.Giacomelli? it was published in 1999.

@ClassicPhilatelist: Howdy there. Yep, stencil. it is a type of print cancel seen on revenues... here are two (2) great examples of such:
https://revenue-collector.com/pages/2911.html
https://revenue-collector.com/pages/2902.html
The stencils seen on battleship revenues are not nearly as wicked looking but still collectible as they are rare like embossed on proprietary revenues (embossed far more common on documentary revenues).

@m and m: Certainly have! Luv the BDR. Just trying to tidy up my list and categories as I am preparing album pages and will categorize some used battles by cancellation type if that makes sense.

He was part of the NYC revenue group for many years. You seem to have covered them all.

For some reason or the other I happened to pick up my tattered half-copy of Proprietary Revenues of 1898 Precanceled Varieties List by Morton Dean Joyce and Clarence Chappell and reread the introduction. Apparently, they have categorized "stencil" cancels as being a "handstamped" which when one thinks about it makes sense.

Here is my refined list of revenue cancellation types:

Manuscript
Printed/Typeset
Handstamped/Stencil
Embossed
Cut aka "Paper Penetrating"
(perfin; punch; herringbone; concentric circle; parallel line)

Still wondering if I should split "Cut" up into two separate categories due to the difference in the mechanics and nature of the cutting method as follows... what say you?

Punch/Perfin
Cut
(herringbone; concentric circle; parallel line)

Also, has anyone seen an embossed, punched, or cut cancellation on a PROPRIETARY revenue? I own and/or have seen these types only on DOCUMENTARY revenues.

I've also got a cut stencil date cancel on an RB1 or RB2 somewhere around here... it's not on my website yet.

Here's a manuscript one and a hand stamped one also for Dr. Fitler:
