Hi Came across this interesting card. Card is addressed to a Sheriff and appears to be a request for some sort of action in a legal matter. I don't know if it was typical for the Post Office to place postmarks on the side of the card reserved for the message but did so in this case.

It's very common to find receiving postmarks on the message side of a postal card during this time period. |

If you are assembling a Canadian collection, may I suggest that you try too obtain a Unitrade Catalogue? It is far more thorough than the Scott's Catalogues and lists more varieties.

The split ring postmark in blue. Nice! I can read Brantford and I believe it is Canada West at bottom. Someone was using an older hammer, after July 1st, 1867 because if you note the Hamilton, Ontario on the backside.

gettinold Nice part sheets Your first block Nova Scotia is Scott 11..They are worth approx.$40.00 a stamp..If you have the "Unshaded E", Then they are approx. $100.00 a stamp..I added my example below to show you the "Unshaded E" variety. Your second Nova Scotia Scott 5 block has a value approx. $40.P.E.I. Scott third 00 a stamp. Your third block of Scott 5 - P.E.I. stamp is worth approx. $20.00-$22.00 a stamp. Your forth block is Scott 9 - P.E.I.stamps...Worth approx.$20.00 - $22.00 a stamp. But remember, if you get that Unitrade Catalouge you can find even more varieties worth lots more...Good start buddy..Enjoy Robert P.S. - When you start Newfoundland stamps, you can use Unitrade and get the (N.S.S.C.) Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalouge ...It is a detailed Catalouge for Newfoundland. |

That's as far as I got with the card. Looks like a legal action pertaining to Kerr v Daraurd? The word after return I think might be a legal term of some sort considering the card is addressed to a Sheriff. I can't make out the signature of the sender/signer of the card. Doubtful the sender could have imagined anyone would be struggling to read the card nearly 150 years later.

I have 5 full sheets and 6 half sheets of the Nova Scotia 11. I'm going to take a closer look at them for that variety. The half sheets were full sheets but perfs suffered as a result of someone folding the sheets. I had to break them up.

Glad to hear gettinold. I hope you will like the catalogue. I know I do and, to me anyway, I think it is getting better all the time too. I ilke the way the stamps are graded and the back of the book material is nice too.
