I have been printing Steiner pages on my existing Brother laser printer (HL-5470DW) but I am not happy with the results. The printing is uneven and tends to smear. This printer does not have an option for selecting different paper weights. I have decided to purchase a new printer to replace the current one.
I have been researching printers online for the last few days and am about to pull my hair out! I am finding it very difficult to determine which printers can handle heavier weight paper.
For those of you who print your own pages, what printers have you found work the best with heavy weight paper? Specifically, I am using Wausau Exact Vellum Bristol Card Stock 67 lb paper.

I use HP LaserJet and they have an option for heavier paper upto 150gsm that is 67lb. I use an acid free off white 140gsm paper for my album sheet needs. I'm happy with the printer but now the rollers have worn out and it needs a good service. |

I use an older HP LaserJet P2035 (has been replaced with a new model number) and have no issues printing 110 pound card stock from the front feeder. |

I use an HP Office Jet Pro 7740 and have no issues. It also handles larger paper sizes. |

I use an Epson WP-4020 Inkjet as it has a backloader for many sheets of heavy paper at a time. |

I've been using a Canon MG7720 all-in-one inkjet to print all my pages for about the last 4 years with great results. I print my pages on 110 lb card stock and have produced several hundred with no issues of smearing or bleeding.
I know many swear by laser jet printers, but in my experience the toner can begin to flake off and/or stick to adjacent pages as early as when they are 15-20 years old. |

I use an HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus with no issues on 67# paper, works like a champ. It must auto sense the paper weight as it never asks and there is no setting in my properties to change it. And it'll print both sides of the paper automatically w/ a temporary property setting change (saves lots of paper), no need to run 2 print jobs to get both sides, it auto flips/prints. My only annoyance is the cost of HP's inkjet cartridges. Not sure what the newest model is now though. Got mine @ Sam's Club a few years ago. |

Do your printers utilize a straight through path for the heavy paper? If not, do you have a problem with curling? |

I have an ancient Brother HL-1650 and forced to use a generic Windows 7 driver but it still shows options for paper thickness in Media setting. My gripe is curls paper more than I like.
I also have an HP color laser 252w and use Staples 67# stock and 28# stock.. It works fine. |

I use an Epson Work Force 3640 inkjet printer. I print on Southworth acid-free cover stock with a linen-textured finish. It's a nice heavy paper that comes in both white and ivory, and I'm very happy with both the paper and the printer. Being a heavy paper, there are no problems with the holes tearing through when they're in a 3-ring binder. I can either use a rear feed or a tray feed, and I generally use the tray feed, and even though the paper goes up and over, there's no problem with curling or smearing, and, except when I'm printing generic borders, I print one page at a time. It's slow, but you have more control. I bought the printer about 2 years ago from Costco so the exact model might not currently be available. |

I Have used a HP Deskjet F4480 for many years. I print Steiner pages on 110lb acid free, white card stock paper. I feed the pages one at a time with no problems. I have printed over ten thousand pages this way. |

I'll be heading over to Office Depot this morning to hopefully do some test printing with my paper. For those of you who have used both inkjet and laser, do you have a definite preference? |

Like some have mentioned if you go to your printer setting and chose paper types you should be able to find something that works. It took me a couple of tries but I finally nailed it. Dianne |

Dianne, that only works if your printer supports it. Brother printers do not. :(
Anyway, I went to Office Max and Office Depot and was not able to do any test printing but I ended up having their print shop print pages for several countries for me on my paper at a reasonable cost. That may be my long term solution. |

I use an HP Office Jet Pro Plus 8600. It has no issues on 65# card stock. It is not a straight-through path, but I've never had it jam with the card stock. It also has a really nice flatbed scanner that I use to scan the more valuable pages from my albums. These scans serve as proof that the stamps were there in case I ever have to file an insurance loss claim. |

I have two different printers I use.
One is the Brother HL-3170CDW. For optimal results, in the print dialog I use the media type "Thicker Paper" and then let the page sit in the printer and cool for a few minutes before I grab it.
The other printer I have is an Epson Ecotank 2750. I just tried a sheet of 67 lb Staples Cover Stock on it. Came out pretty nice, though I think there is the tiniest bit of feathering from the ink.
I can print a page on each printer and then do high resolution scans and post them somewhere, if you want to see the difference. |
