How Do I Complete My Prexies?

Sorry for the ignorant newbie question. I really like this series of Presidential issues. But I have many missing. So how do you go about finding the missing ones? Do you just have to buy from ebay??

Looks complete to me, except for the horizontal and vertical coils.

If you really want to specialize, you could collect plate blocks (different #s for each value), booklets, coil line pairs, and used stamps on cover, representing stamps fulfilling particular rates for various rate periods.

Specialists can advise with more detail.

stampboylife ..I suggest you checkout these local clubs and join one or more which are active.. I joined a local club and I got tons of stamps priced much better than ebay. and they have experts who will guide you..join the ones which does auctions regularly..

As already stated, that is the complete set except for the coils.

Other than ebay, you might want to try HipStamp or the American Philatelic Society (APS) Store. I buy regularly from all three. Also, there are ads for many reputable dealers in Linn's Stamp News if you have access to or subscribe to it.

There's also another $1 version. Yours looks to be SC#832 which is purple and black. In 1954 another red violet and black version was issued, SC#834c. That's if you want to be REALLY complete.

You would want the coils in line pairs. They can be poorly centered so need a good look over, but can be found and for reasonable prices.

There are actually three versions of the $1 stamp, all perforated; no coil.

- #832 - purple and black.............SCV = $7.00
- 832c - red violet and black.........SCV = $6.00
- 832g - bright magenta and black.....SCV = $75.00

On the off-chance you don't know the difference between joint and line pairs .....



If you look at the right edge of the right side stamp in the joint pair, you can see the line that originally ran between that stamp and the missing one further to the right of it. A potential line pair was destroyed when this joint pair was torn from the strip. Note the difference in catalogue values; not much here, but with some other coils, it can be HUGE.

Uboatnut. So a line pair is the one with the printed line between the stamps as well as a perforation which might or might not exactly on the same line? What was the line for? Are these from a sideways coil and a vertical coil would come out with the stamps connected between the "2 cents 2" and the "United".
When were this presidential set produced. Are all the stamps that have a USA presidents head called Presidents?
This is a lot of questions I know, but I am hoping to put a page or two about coil stamps in my dictionary collection. "Presidents" might get into my collection in the section about stamps with names, along with Blackjack, Penny red, Yacht etc.

There are several things here to be complete that haven't been missing.
Look at the various varieties. There are booklet panes and secondary color varieties. If you consider errors, then there are also the 830 30c (830a - Blue, 830b - Deep Blue) printed in the wrong color, and the 832c ($1 Red Violet and Black) 832g (Bright Magenta and Black) 832h (Red Violet and Black). 834a ($5 Red Brown and Black). Or the paper error on 832b (USIR watermarked - for this you have to have an entry that shows at least part of the R or more of the I than would be visible to disprove it as a P).
Lots to get still...

Let's not overlook the CANAL ZONE overprints. (unless I missed their mention)

There are several books on the Prexies. My favorite is The Prexies by Roland Rustad. 335 pages all about them!
