Hi

Have a sheet of the 2 cent Grand Canyon Stamps. In the selvage the prior owner annotated the existence of a color shift on a number of the stamps as well as a Double Transfer. I have isolated the Double Transfer but I am having difficulty identifying any sort of color shift. I simply do not know what to look for. Does anyone know how to identify the color shift on this particular issue?

I think that perhaps the original owner was referring to shifted transfers rather than to color shifts.

Would a "shifted transfer" produce a double image in a part of the stamp?

In single color printing, there's no "color shift" so I think the others are correct when they talk about shifted transfers.

Thank you. That makes total sense. I'm trying to determine what the prior owner may have meant in his comments about a shift. Looking at the stamps nothing in particular jumps out at me other than the unusual shape of the G in Grand. Nothing I found in Scott suggests anything other than a Double Transfer is known to exist on these stamps. Was the prior owner just flyspecking when he indicated 15 or 16 of the stamps on this sheet show shifts? No way to know but if anyone on this forum would know I'm putting my money on you. I've had the good fortune of reading some of your other threads and your opinion is regarded as expert opinion. Should I disregard the prior owners comments about the "shift"?

One item of interest on the 2 cent Grand Canyon is the constant variety at the bottom right corner of the inside border.

If you look at the other three corners, you'll see that the bottom or top line extends through the vertical lines.

In the bottom right corner, this does not happen. This is constant on every stamp.

Thank you. I will certainly take a look at that.

This particular pane has many shifted and double transfers; they are listed in Loren French's Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties.
