Hi,

I know nothing about stamps but found this digging through the safe the other day. I imagine it must have come from my dad's house after cleaning it out. I'd like to sell it here in Portland but see valuations that are all over the map.

Can any of you help a newbie?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a perf 11, flat plate printing, Scott #554. It's a pair, but the top top stamp is damaged at right and at top. Essentially the lower stamp is a good MNH single (assuming there is no hinge on the second stamp). That's the "good news". As far as selling it a 554 single (which is how this should be valued, given the damage to the top stamp) is $3.

No big bucks here, sorry.

EDIT: Welcome to the forum.

You're welcome Lee. Well really, damaged or not, it's not a big value stamp. If the top stamp were pristine as well, the most the pair would value at is around $6. And even then, you could expect to get about 1/3rd that on ebay. A dealer probably wouldn't give you $1 for it. It's just a common stamp.
