I bought this from a well-known dealer with no mention of the green back. What is going on here? I've never heard of anything like this before.

Appears to be some kind of ink flood and a kiss print. Clearly the positions were numbered while it was still a complete sheet. |

This clearly has a second impression, but doesn't really look like a normal double impression. I hadn't considered that it might be printer's waste. |

I don't think it is a kiss print..Looks more like a Fresh Entry Quote: a 'fresh entry' a stamp must show evidence of a previous design that for some reason was 'erased' from the plate by burnishing, and a new, or 'fresh,' entry was applied in its place As per Ralph at re-entries.com https://re-entries.com/terms.html#freshRobert. |

That is relating to Canadian stamps. I have never seen the term "fresh entry" used in any reference on US stamps. I have seen "double transfer" or "re-entry" used to describe the phenomenon described here. However I do not think that is the case here. This appears to be an inking variety rather then a plate variety. |

Odd in that only the frame lines appear doubled. I'd vote for printers waste that was possibly layed in ink to cover the back. |

Interesting. There must be 99 other examples out there. This stamp is position 16. |

Also interesting that someone actually had a handstamp Pos. Why would that have been available? |

I paid lot for this one thinking it was a 498d. . .wondering if I overpaid (or maybe got a bargain on something special)? |

I love it. Very cool and unique. I feel as if there is a story here to be told. Who knows about value but I want to follow this story as it unfolds. |

Though it is cool, I'm probably going to return it. It's not a 498d and probably not worth anything near what I paid for it. Does anyone know of an expert that I could check with before returning it? |

Somehow I suspect that the dealer did not miss it, he just misinterpreted it, either accidentally or deliberately depending on the dealer. |
