A Storage Realization

All,

I've come to the realization that using stock books solely for storage is not how I want to keep my entire collection. I'm opposed to using hinges, however I think it's worth investing into some mounts to use in an album. Duplicates or stamps I'm not entirely devoted to making an album of (everything but U.S. and Canada at this time) I think I will keep in the stock books.

I've heard people mention Scott albums/pages and the option of self-printing pages. If one were to print their own, what kind of quality paper would you use? My search through of the forum didn't reveal an answer I was looking for.

wheatcent....If you don't like using hinges, you might want to consider the Mystic American Heirloom hingeless albums for your US stamps. There's not a better value on the market for hingeless albums. I've had mine for about 6 months and couldn't be happier with them.

I'm enjoying my Mystic American Heirloom Hingeless albums for US Stamps. On a side note, I'd consider making my own hingeless pages IF I knew how to stick mounts on pages. Anyone know where these could be purchased?

I made a similar decision a while back. I like the look of stockbooks on a shelf, but the lack of any organization doesn't appeal. I'll be using them as a temporary way to organize stamps as I ready them for mounting, but that's about all I really want them for.

I decided to go the 'print my own' route and plan to use mounts primarily for stamps before 1940 and later mint issues if I have them. For stuff post-1940 my plan for now is to use hinges although that could easily change for certain countries.

I've decided I'm going to use the stock books as a place for temporary sorting/storage while I acquire albums. I'm still toying with the same idea as @StatesmanStamper (i.e. printing my own) for my Canadian stamps. As for U.S. stamps, I'm gonna go for Mystic's Hingeless albums that @Coastwatcher suggested. Too bad the price isn't the same as when they were released in 2012!

wheatcent....I honestly don't think that you will regret purchasing the Mystic albums....I know that I haven't!

Coastwatcher, I'm thinking I'll start off with Volume I and then work my way up to the other albums one by one (that's code for "whenever I feel like dropping $100 on another album lol). Either that or I start off with Volume II cause Lord knows I can fill most of that one up pretty fast. What would you recommend?

wheatcent.....I started out with the first three volumes and added volume four later. I would get the volume that holds the stamps that are of the most interest to you. In my case, that would have been volume one (1847-1934). While I'm sparse on 19th century issues, the stamps of the early 20th century have always interested me. It also gives me motivation, whenever I see an empty space, to want to fill it. Volumes two and three are complete and I haven't started on volume four yet. Whichever one you choose, I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have mine.

Coastwatcher, I appreciate the input. I think I'll go with Volume I first as planned. I'll update you as soon as it gets here!
