In another thread in this forum the word "massive" was discussed. Here is a lot in a current Christoph Gaertner (Germany) auction that is truly massive. 35 million stamps! A catalog value is not provided but the weight is - 8 tonnes. I can see floortrader being all over this .

The problem with this lot - it's all wallpaper desert dune material. One would need several lifetimes to move this. |

No room for that amount of material . My wife wasn't happy about me winning 18 boxes when the picture shown 6 boxes on SAN's .Maybe will try another "massive " lot in the Fall, but only 10 or less boxes too much trash in the bigger ones .Bigger the lot the faster my trash bin gets filled . |

Wow that is a lot of stamps. I could not even begin to imagine how to handle so many stamps.

You never know what you will find on this forum...the article on the Collyer brothers was DISTURBING. Never heard of that before. Wonder if they had philatelic materials in there... |

Interesting how in some images provided by Gartner, the stamp sheets are packed the way copy paper is packed at Walmart and Staples.

I really enjoyed reading about the Collyer Brothers.
At the bottom of Germania's photo, it appears to say 85,000 euros which I guess is the auction estimate. |

It didn't sell which isn't surprising.
Here's the description - "1960s, and Ajman, Mahra etc. Phenomenal lot consisting of 245 boxes containing in all about 35,000,000 (35 millions) stamps in sheets, miniature sheets and souvenir sheets and also Umm al-Qiwain stamps with plastic coating (about 96,000 stamps; Olympics, Railways). Mint and/or cancelled. Original packaging. There are a lot of different topics such as Space Travel, Kennedy, Churchill, Birds, Cats, Religion, Olympic Games, Personalities, Soccer, Paintings, Fish, Horses, Butterflies, Unesco, Sports, Human Rights, Dogs, Flowers and some others. The total weight of all 245 boxes amounts to about 8 tonnes. The catalogue value is enormous!"
What they mean by cancelled they mean CTO, but this is 8 tons of wallpaper. What can one do with this stuff?

There are dealers out there who retail and wholesale material like this. But with 35 million stamps and a start bid of 85,000 euros, it would require a philatelic Heimlich maneuver to process and sell. |
