The problem with the special printings is that for some there is not really a difference between the special printing and a normal printing, for example in the case of the American BNC special printing. Most important is provenance and (in some cases) color in comparison with a certified copy that has - here again - the correct provenance.
This is one instance where the color difference is fairly obvious. But, I agree, provenance will help. Wished I knew. Found it amongst a very small collection I purchased in Chicago. Owner rescued the collection from a dumpster.
The Garfield special printing is even more complicated than the others as you may find in many threads here at SCF. By the way there are also "normal" stamps in gray brown.
