This stamp has a partial grill. If the default choice of grill ID on partial grills is whatever grill type is considered most common for that particular issue, would I be correct in considering this an F grill?

Yes, it would. Not to say whether or not the grill is genuine, which is another conversation.

Thanks. You'd think someone trying to fake a grill would put more effort into it.

Fake grills make common stamps easier to sell, and are profitable even with deep discounts. How much effort do philatelists put into learning about grills?

Understood. I believe it may have been more difficult in the past for novice collectors to distinguish between fake and genuine. It is still difficult today but made easier by the availability of information. Forums such as this, stampsmarter, and the internet in general are sources of learning collectors have available. I have learned more during my short time on this forum than during years prior. Learning about Grills varies by the number of grills encountered. Someone who comes across many has a greater opportunity than someone who encounters few.
