Should Scott start making the Scott Catalogue in a Loose-Leaf format? The catalogues have gotten so big that it is a burden to carry them to a stamp show so you'll know what stamps you need. If it were in a loose-leaf version you could take out the pages for the country you want to get stamps for. Scott could issue yearly supplements (like they do for stamp albums) to replace pages that have changes to them. Maybe every five years issue a complete version for new comers to the hobby.

I'd rather see Scott catalogs be released in a digital/e-book format. Not having to ship and print those heavy books should surely bring the price into a more accessible range for a greater amount of collectors.

The Scott catalog is available as pdf files. However, the 2007 set is the last one you can print directly. Very bad decision by Scott. All the sets after that, you have to use print screen.

I think Ironhelm's idea is a good one. I would certainly like the ability to deal with one country at a time. I've had the old and new CD volumes and I also agree with Kim, the new ones are a pain to use. At least with the old one I could print out what I needed easily.

The more I think about the loose leaf idea, the more I like it. If Scott would sell by the country it would be great for those of us who don't collect WW. Of course, their revenue would suffer, but I think they should sacrifice for the good of the collector!

Yeah, right!

Minkus tried the loose-leaf format, and it failed. But then again, Minkus didn't have the user base. Their bound catalog also failed.

I don't think Scott would suffer net revenue loss if they tried the looseleaf format or print on demand subscription. They would gain more customers that would more than cover the revenue lost through illegal copying (my opinion). The problem with Scott is that they are semi-stuck in their old ways.

Thanks! AA's pricing for discs seems a bit high in comparison to the printed catalogs, though. I'll have to wait until the 2010 discs come out and hope the 2009 set drops in price.

Prove it

I asked this very same question in a different thread -- I've been unable to find the recent catalogs on CD.

The past 1 or 2 years of software catalogs have come out on DVDs.

I heard that Amos is NOT releasing the 2010 software set; however, I have not verified this with Amos. They are probably scratching their heads regarding what I assume is a huge drop in software sales. Will they ever learn?

2009 software set is the last one I am aware of. Amos probably still has some in stock, you just have to call them directly and ask. That's what I did in the past, even though they didn't have it advertised.

KirkS,

I'm still scratching my head over their pricing. A set of 2009 DVDs works out to be more than a printed set of 2010 catalogs. I suppose there's shipping and handling to consider which will balance things out.

I know I haven't seen it, but if they aren't going to do a freely printable CD version of the catalog, perhaps Scott could do a spiral binding the the thing(s).

I know I might be the only one that cares, but my Zumstein catalog is of reasonable size, I think the paper is around A5 size and it is available bound as spiral bound. Being able to totally and completely fold the pages behind one another make a tremendous difference for ease of use. It is so much easier to us than my Scott US 2010 Specialized.
