I have been an accumulator of stamps for over 50 years and always felt I would have time for the "hobby" in my later years. When young, the family went overseas and along with that I became interested in stamps. I had collected quite a few used ones and had some encouragement from my mother, whose father had collected stamps for years. I continued to collect as I had time then and also room to house stamps and keep them in good order. My grandfather passed away and at that time I was given many stamps. The family kept his album and the majority of his items. I continued to increase my holdings over the of years and when the executrix of the estate decided it was time to sell the collection, we took the collection to New York city and got an offer from a dealer. My cousin and I both had an interest in the collection and the decision was made that I could buy the collection for what the dealer had offered. This was in 1982. I did continue to accumulate stamps when good opportunities came along, In the mean time I was busy raising a family. Now I am retired and wish to improve my knowledge of philately. I hope to be able to stay active with the collection and learn more about the hobby. The advent of the internet has made it very interesting. Finding the Stamp Community has been an eye opener and has made me more enthusiastic than ever.

Oh, and I see you live in Bradenton. Grew up in Sarasota, and lived in Bradenton before I moved to Riverview. How long have you been there?
