Hey I am new here I hope I am doing everything correct. So, I inherited a rather large stamp collection from my Great Grandfather and I am going through it just to get an idea on what I have and to have an idea on a value of it. I probably won't sell. The stamp I have a question about is a 2 1/2 Centavo Columbian stamp that reads departamento de antioquia. If I could get a identification and value of it that would be great. Thanks

A "back of the book" stamp. After the regular listings for Colombia stamps is a section for the Departments of Colombia. The explanation at the beginning of the section says that they were originally states, but are now Departments of the Republic of Colombia. Besides Antioquia, there are Bolivar, Boyaca and several others. Then, pushing this even further "back in the book", this is a Late Fee stamp, thus the word Retardo, for late. Scott's lists this as LF3, 2 1/2 centavo violet, issued in 1902, price in the 2014 edition was 25 cents.

The green one posted by rod 222 is Scott LF1, also a late fee stamp from Antioquia. The stamp pictures General Jose Maria Cordoba.

Thanks WB,
would be interesting to know how that worked, fairly expensive at 2.5 cents.
Mail to get forwarded outside opening hours to forward mail to the next ship cast off, perhaps.

Neer125: A pet peeve, I suppose because I lived there for several years: It's "Colombia" not "Columbia." Says so right on the stamp. Please.

It's worth searching for both on ebay and other sites - there's a lot of confusion out there!
