Hi Waddsbadds,
I don't know any Albanian at all but here's the results of a little idle diggging around while confined at home:
There are two main dialects of Albanian: Gheg (in the north) and Tosk (in the south)
Modern standard Albanian is based on the Tosk dialect.
In standard ALbanian, "Albania" is
Shqipėri or
Shqipėria.
In Gheg Albanian, "Albania" is
Shqipni or
Shqipnia or
Shqypni or
Shqypnia.
In standard Albanian, the adjective "Albanian" is
shqiptar.
Albanian is an Indo-European language and like most of these it uses different forms of words for different grammatical purposes.
For example, the overprint on philatelycanada's stamp is:
Mbretėria e Shqipėrisė (= Kingdom of Albania)
so here we have the possessive (genitive) form:
Shqipėrisė.
The Albanian name for the Albanian language is
shqip.
My apologies to any Albanian speakers if any of this is wrong.
