On the Kenya judicial, is there something following "Kenya" on the overprint, or is that an optical illusion? It almost looks like there could be a "1" there...

@rod222
Effets de commerce et quittances is 'commercial effects and receipts'. Effigie de vieillard is 'effigy of an old man'. How one relates that to stamps is beyond me. I'll write to a friend in Paris in the morning and will report any explanation to this forum.

Quote: I have been told "Silk Tax" Yes, we all suffer that Rev but I guess it may well indeed have be used for that. I once was told a French blood donation issue was another country! As long as we filter the info over years and end up with a reasonable interpretation. Tony: Perhaps the vignette on the stamp is an old man? used for social security instruments, rather high values though , a right curly one that. |

Yes I did, Rev, it may be just "incomplete" Barefoot, but I'm hoping for you, an unlisted issue! Maybe a world cruise |

As promised I did get in touch with my contact in Paris but unfortunately without success. My friend can no more give an explanation for rod222's effigie de vieillard in Forbin than I can.
I went through all Japan in Forbin and nowhere did I find a stamp with an image of an old man. However, for what it's worth, I did find a listing in Forbin of another country with an entry effigie de la Reine Victoria without a single stamp bearing Queen Victoria's image anywhere in the rest of the country listings.
So now I'm as confused as rod222 as to Forbin's description.
