Yes, a bit tricky working those coats of arms. I like those in favour of the rather boring modern type.
I reckon your cancel strike on that one is a ripper.
The folds of the royal tapestry surrounding the Eagle has bees on it, (a great, and almost hidden one for a thematic on bees :)
The Bee
Symbol of immortality and resurrection, the bee was chosen so as to link the new dynasty to the very origins of France. Golden bees (in fact, cicadas) were discovered in 1653 in Tournai in the tomb of Childeric I, founder in 457 of the Merovingian dynasty and father of Clovis. They were considered as the oldest emblem of the sovereigns of France.

Rod, sometimes the words you use confuse me. Then I look them up my Australian/American Bilingual Dictionary. |

Lots of potential fugitive ink in that lot Collin, A very handsome set, although I do trump you on the last one, I have that on piece I am envious of the Straits settlements issue very handy piece of perforations. From David Giles: Special Adhesive Revenue stamps are general fiscal stamps. They are titled "Special Adhesive" to differrentiate from "Embossed Revenues". Embossed revenues are those that are part of the design of such things as cheques, birth certificates, etc. Those documents that required revenue to be charged, but were not embossed with the revenue stamp used a "Special Adhesive" revenue stamp. This is a stamp acting like a label, on a document, to show payment of revenue. David |

I believe American Bank Note may have been responsible for this one. I recently picked up 13 of at least 49 provinces. Lots more to go. |

Very nice indeed, colour me green. Going by the hint of the print of the adjoining stamp on the LHS, the gals on the rouletting machine had very little tolerance to work with. Any ideas of their use?

It is hard to get a firm handle on the purpose of these. A proof sheet was included in an American Bank Note archive auction in 2008, but the listing said it was either an ABN or NBN product. Many other references claim ABN as the source. Google Translate gives me this result from one Spanish source: Tax stamps for Stamp Company were issued in 1876 with the names of all the Spanish provinces. La efigie del centro representa al Reino de España. The effigy of the center represents the Kingdom of Spain. Como puede observarse carece de valor facial, ya que su función era estar adherido en la cabecera de los nuevos pliegos y servir de comprobante de que los sellos de correos y las pólizas suministrados a los estancos por la Sociedad del Timbre eran auténticos. As can be seen no face value, because its function was to be joined at the head of the new specifications and serve as proof of postage stamps and the policies delivered to the silos by the Society of the Ring were genuine. Se imprimieron en Estados Unidos por la imprenta estatal American Bank Note Company. Were printed in the United States by the state printing American Bank Note Company. Which I read to say that the stamp functioned almost like an official stamp, verifying that the information on which it appeared could be relied upon. Perhaps a reader of Spanish can do better than Google's automated translation? Here is the link to the auction item from 2008: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/5237381 |

The two Foreign Bill stamps belong very much amongst the Revenues. I'm reasonably certain that 'foreign' here refers simply to some place, probably in India, outside Cochin.
Interesting that they were still using Second Raja revenues in 1950, 18 years after he died! |

Sporty, CJD? Have you seen that famous exhibit of her bloomers? You could fit an average suburban family inside them |
