Here is a Romania revenue, the middle of three values I have...no idea how large the complete set might be:  And this sad little example is a Bolivia documentary revenue from 1867, the low value of the set of five:  |

Listed in Stanley Gibbons in main Romanian catalogue Postal tax Stamps Afforded SGT numbers (5 Lei missing) 1943  First time I have seen a Bolivian Revenue!  |

7 in the set 20c each
Valuable if you don't have them I guess,
if you collect Romania.
1965 Stanley Gibbons has them in general listings in 1943
as "obligatory tax stamps" only later relegating them to B.o.b.
Not that common in general Romanian duplicates that abound in
collections at auction.

I don't think I have another Bolivian revenue (at least nothing this old...I don't know whether I count that 1946 set of 6 local/obligatory/revenue/whatevers as revenues), which is why I picked up such a sad looking example. |

Very adroit. You are referring of course to these of Beni. I have them tucked away as Cinderellas. The Richard C Witt collection shows in colour the varieties and values of your posted grey example. plus 3 other Revenues, that's it it seems. PS: Byrum lists none under his listings revenues or telegraph.  |

rod, do you know the approximate era(s) of those state revenues? They look a bit '60's to '70's. |

Hi Collin, 1966 albeit mine are "knife" roulette I think you call them (punctured by knife) not the roulette shown in the Barefoot  |

Rod, looking at the two sets of Tasmanian roulettes, I'd agree they're different - in gauge, but not in style. They both look like simple line roulettes, from the same stable as the coloured rouletting in these Bundi 1 Anna 'Sacred Cows' used as revenues:  and in this block of Duttia (SG 38, the ¼ Anna of 1920):  Though I've rarely see such long slits, on stamps anyway. |

Yes, you could be right Tony,
something fishy about them for mine
they seem to get a little more fine
towards the end of the slits,
I was thinking perhaps spinning wheels of some sort.
As an engineer, I am doubtful the boss of the punch
would survive being that slim.
If it was punched I can't see them doing more than 1 sheet at a time.

The stamps would also be very messy to pull apart if the slits weren't complete. You might get away with on a heavy duty kraft, but thin stamp paper would be a problem. Your specimens might be from a short-lived, ill-advised experiment with the broader gauge. |
