you seem to have an endless supply of Spanish stamps / labels.

And I only care on those issued and/or used in Catalonia. I don't care about the Spanish ones. But, being Barcelona and Catalonia very active and cultivated, we've many items to show to the World.

Was just reminded - in Another Place - of these Jind State revenues



as the 1876 ½ Anna on laid paper, but perforated, which was never issued as a postage stamp, and



the 1882 type ½ Anna, which was only issued in shades of brown for postage.

They turn up occasionally in collections, to the consternation of collectors, who can't find them in the ordinary catalogues.

Sadly true, Rod, but what's the solution? My Gibbons Part 1 is quite big enough now. Even a simplified listing of Commonwealth revenues would bloat it to the size of a couple of volumes of SOTW.

I think you'll have to create a world revenue site, just filling in the gaps over the last century from Forbin. Of course, it would help if you translated Forbin into English while you were at it. That will keep you off that wretched bike for a while.

I suppose there is a valid editorial decision not to start something you aren't capable of finishing, but it would only take a line or two to say, "#____ in blue and perforated examples on laid paper are revenue stamps."

Gibbons do, in fact, indicate fiscal usages, in some places. For instance the note after SG 35 under Kishangarh about stamps cancelled 'MC', or with punch holes or violet Stamp Office cancellations. However, it's a bit misleading. Here is an SG 3 with a fiscal MC cancellation:



So this type of usage existed from the very beginning.

I think it's time to drag out Barwani and wave it about it a bit again ...

This shows the wages for the British Indian postman at Rajpur. I hope for his sake that he didn't have to find the 1 Anna: his pay was only around 16 Annas a day. An Anna out of that would have hurt. The head is of Rana Devi Singh as a boy; he came to the throne as an 8 year-old in 1930.

This also shows the hierarchy of command involved: Rajpur was a village PO; it came under Anjar (or Anjad), a larger village nearby, also in Barwani, and in turn under Indore, which was part of the Central (India) Circle ... "Big fleas have little fleas/Upon their backs to bite 'em ...'

This stamp was reprinted over a number of years, and comes in a great range of shades and papers. I still haven't got to the bottom of it all.

I don't recall seeing a telegraph from Germany here, yet:




A middle value from the 1875 series. The pfennige values were blue and black, and the three different mark values were blue and red.

Just as everything else from Jammu & Kashmir has been forged, so too have these Telegraphs. Is nothing sacred?

Okay, I can appreciate that those are sort of neat...are they hard to come by? I see that they are in Yvert, but never noticed them before.

Not a lot of catalogue value, but that doesn't mean they are common.

Cjd, Frits Staal's The Stamps of Jammu & Kashmir' in its checklist rates the 1, 2 and 4 Annas as 'C' (common to very common); the 8 Anna, 1, 2 and 5 Rupee as 'S' (at least 100 copies exist), and the 10 and 25 Rupees as 'R' (25-100 copies exist). The Officials, Yvert 10-18, are C for the 1 Anna, S for the 2 and 4 Anna and 1 Rupee, R for the 8 Anna and 2 and 5 Rupees, and 2R (11-25 copies exist) for the 10 and 25 Rupees.

Suffice to say, you don't come across any of them in the average kiddy's collection ...
