Excellent thread Rod. I don't collect revenues (yet) but I collect knowledge. |

Thanks BeeSee, Revstampman is the driving force, I only collect them because I don't throw anything away The revenues will get you in the end, (hehehe) unless of course you employ Spock's oblate spheroid low-gravity revenue tin foil hat. |

Because of the ease of overprinting one little "G" I've never been that certain I have a genuine Griqualand West stamp, until this one... Now I'm pretty sure. Griqualand West was a British colony for several years in the 1870's, and I believe it still has an identity within South Africa. |

Your revenue and history is shown here: http://www.zum.de/whkmla/region/sou...qualand.htmlYes RevStampMan, slacking shall not be tolerated, you are already on report for having too many nice things. I have secured two "Bill of ladings" with Revenues, I can offer you one as exchange for your "potatoes" Do you want Italy? (4 stamps)-3 differing revs, or Thailand 1 type but blue and rev cancels. I'll retain the one you don't want. please advise. |

Thanks for that link, rod.
I picked up a few handfuls of oddball revs today, so I have some new material to keep this thread bumped for a while. (The Griqualand was one of them.)

Question: I came across some mouth watering revenues this morning, Ceylon and India, around $1 to $5 each. All had the bottom cut off with scissors.
I stapled my wallet to my pocket, and forced myself to walk off.
Can these be collected this way, or are full stamps just as easy to find? I was presuming this was a way of permanantly cancelling them to prevent re-use. Thanks

rod- It could well be a cancel method, but it is not one I've seen. Here are a few of the Indias I picked up yesterday, and the only Ceylon. The Ceylon is the roughest of them, but it is a value I didn't have, so... Here are a few of the Indias, including a detail of the embossing on the QVs... Looks like the embossing was done with a Spirograph... One of the Edwards... And the only India KGV in the bunch... |
