Collin, I really like the old engraved design. They have not change in the 24 years I have been here except for number fonts and the placement such as horizontal, verticle, arched and diagonal. I have found that these revenues in 10 and 25 centavos are fairly common but not easily available as used since people generally keep the entire document just in case it might be needed. Higher values are much less common. In the 80s and early 90s mint were easily available and even sold in most any store. That changed a little more than 10 years ago and few, if any, sellers will sell mint to the general public.

Quote: Death on stamps collection
What the?!
Sorry I missed this, Rod. I joined the Mourning Stamps and Covers Club last year. I have an interest, sparked by my KGVI collecting interests, in social history of the 1930s and 1940s. One of the things that facinates me is the "old customs". Most interesting is the customs of mourning. Such customs were black wreaths on the door, black and purple plumed horses, etc. So, I do collect mourning covers, but I really like corner cards from funeral homes, coffin suppliers, post cards from funeral homes, etc. I've a gew interesting items... it's one small collection I just pplod along with! OK Revstampman, I am going for "brown" with your 1d. Barefoot's preamble states: Many revs esp in Vic period were deliberatly printed in fug ink which were designed to alter on contact with water Thus many stamps are far from original shade Colours are listed only in their simplest form.
I checked my collection and I have a scan of premier auction's 2d 1920-1960 stamp duty (sic) listed as "buff" Barefoot only lists orange or brown.

Rod, I don't know? Changing from brown to Lemon Yellow? I think that might be a stretch. Of course it would be to simple for them to list what they change into! |
