Below is a Sc.10A recently acquired on cover. I plate it as 47L5E. It is nice, four margins with a small (.5mm) tear upper right corner, somewhat oxidized I think. It is a sharp impression which seems common for 10s. I was looking at the lower right corner to decide if it was recut and I saw something that seems odd. So below the main image is a blow up of the lower right corner. It looks to me like someone engraved a numeral (3 or maybe an 8) in the lower right triangle block or am I just up to late and hallucinating? I looked at the blown image on the complete plating site and it is not as sharp an image but I think I see it there also. Comments?

Definitely up too late :)

Hopefully you did conclude that it does have a one-line recut in the LRT.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Yes, I did conclude that there was a recut in the LRT. The plating database says this one has three recuts. ULT is also pretty obvious but the third one is not obvious (to me anyway).

Database indicates "Chase 1+11+17" and same for McDaniel. I have not tried to find where to look up the definition of those locations. Obviously two are ULT + LRT + ?

Below are blow ups of the other corners. (Fortunately I saw no aliens in any of these images this morning!) My guess is the upper right diamond block (green arrow). Am I correct?

Nice stamp, banknoteguy. I would say what looks like a 3 or 8 in the lower right triangle likely is a random inking anomaly. Other random ink spots can be seen all over the stamp, including in the upper right triangle.
