Hi,
I'm a new member. I've been reading posts for a year now and now have a question that I have not seen in any posts or even in a google search. I bought a large box of stamps at an estate sale and nothing in it seemed to be after 1940. In it were Luxor stamp hinges, Excello stamp hinges, and what I believe to be very old stamp hinges. I have googled these, searched ebay and this stamp forum and there is no mention of these. I would appreciate any info, particularly the perforated squares-they seem to have glue on both sides. Are these the really old paper "hinges" that hold stamps in place in really old albums?
Thanks

Hinges used in mainland Europe used to be gummed in both sides, moistened at the top of one side and the bottom of the other for adhesion to the stamp and album respectively. I don't know whether your perforated ones are an American equivalent.

Funny I just found a packet of those same Luxor hinges as I was cleaning up my stamp room. They probably go back to my grandfather. I am wondering if they are worth saving or using, or if I should just chuck em.

Here is a 5-page thread on the topic of hinges

Older seems to be good, though I know nothing about these

Didn't realize that Scott was once located at 1 West 47th Street in NYC. This location is the eastern landmark for the World Famous "Diamond District" that runs along W 47th St to the corner of Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave).

Scott address:

The 1926 Scott worldwide catalog has them at 33 W 44th St
The 1927 edition has them at 1 W 47th St

then:

The US Specialized for 1952 still has them at 1 W 47th St
The 1953 Specialized has them at 580 Fifth Ave.

Which dates the hinges to 1927-1952.

As for the perforated paper, could it basically be printers waste, that someone salvaged from sheets that went wrong and got cut up. Postage stamps, cinderellas, or christmas seals?

I would test the hinges. Use a small amount of water. Hinge a few cheap stamp Some used and some mint with gum. Come back a day later and see if you can remove the hinges. Since some collectors are paying $15 and up for a packet of Dennison and some others it would be worth it to find out if they have some value.
