Still greatly enjoying this thread. It has inspired me to accumulate examples in search of the shades and dies. Rob- the 8d Tiger Cat definitive from 1961- how does one differentiate the master plates?

Hi shermae

The first master plate shows a characteristic "halo" effect over the animals back, and the tail has a relatively smooth outline. By comparison, stamps from the second master plate lack the "halo" effect, and the tail has a ragged appearance.

I have both plates somewhere, I'll find them and post the two plates to show you how they look. I have temporarily stopped uploading as one of the stamps I was going to upload was damaged, soon as I replace it I will continue with the uploading.

Rob

Hi Rob041256,

I came across the following in the 'other' stamp forum - Australia 1950 £2 Arms. Misplaced SPECIMEN overprint, apparently offered in a "forthcoming auction of a reputable UK auction house."

I did not see this variety in this email thread of yours. Is this a new discovery?

Hi Prexie3c

There are many varieties of KGVI I do not have, and even though I have many various Coats-of-Arm, varieties like this is seldom seen, it is also very rare.
If it were auctioned in Australia I would definitely bid for it providing it is mint unhinged.
As it is a very rare variety there may not be any that are well centred.
It isn't a new discovery, I have heard of this variety, but the image you posted is the first time I have seen one.

Rob
