Hello agmasd56,
Thanks for sharing these.
Could you possibly show us a higher definition scan of at least some of these stamps?
This may help us confirm whether they are genuine or not. |

White Russia is Belarus (capital Minsk). Ruthenia is something else, located mostly in the southwestern tip of Ukraine, bordering Hungary and Slovakia, i.e., much further south. Ruthenian cities are Mukachevo and Uzhhorod. |

I find these and similar issues fascinating.
They provide a window into the complex history of the time and also of the emigré movements in the long years since.
In his handbooks Dr Ceresa showed two examples of postcards that appeared to have been sent from a Belarusian field post office to Riga, both franked with these 5k and 10k stamps.
These stamps appear to have been printed at the request of the Belarusian National Republic for use by the army corps under Stanislav Bulak-Balachovic.
They may well never have been issued but they are an interesting area for me given the numbers of original stamps and at least four different forgeries that exist.
The Rada (government) of the Belarusian National Republic survives to this day in exile.

What I find most interesting about this set is how many forgeries there are for stamps that never saw postal use. One of the other threads on this topic talks about how they were made mostly for the packet trade. I think that most of copies I have are forgeries. Here are a couple of other threads that go into some detail about these stamps. Floortrader shows many copies of genuine vs forgeries in in the 1st link with a lot of detail about how to tell them apart and Rod starts off the second thread with some history of this set https://goscf.com/t/39691https://goscf.com/t/8428#8428 |
