Hello NSK,

Nice reference but I was looking at R0475.01 R.B/&Co. with a final stop.

In any case I prefer your suggestion. :)

It's not easy to compare dies when there are so many missing pins.

Maybe R1615.01 R.E/&Co. known on rosy mauve pl.16.

You read my mind.

I'll submit it to the Perfin Society for opinion, and post back here.
My latest Perfin Society list was 2017

Maybe another discovery by SCF.

Put to press: issued after that. Whereas the Specialised (2001) only gives 1880, it must have been put to press on or before February 5th, 1880. Otherwise, it could not have been issued on February 5th. And there is a good chance they did not issue on the same day they started printing.

Interesting, I had read somewhere the heading "DD" regarding these,
and the acronym was not explained, I thought about "distributed date"
but dashed if I could find it again.

There was also "DDF" ?

RB / &Co is out, no pin under o of Co

Hi Rod,

These abbreviations mean:

DD = different die

i.e. stamps in a lot where each one has a different perfin die

DDF = different die or face

i.e. stamps in a lot where each stamp is a different combination of perfin die and face different stamp.

Thanks Nigel.

Took a screen capture of that issue breaking apart a (seemingly) identical perfin pair, that actually discovered a paired die.

We always say "leave as you find, in the largest multiple"
That is a fabulous example.......

Hi Rod,

The latest Perfin Society totals that I've seen for perfins on GB stamps as a whole are:

24,932 DD

268,704 DDF

That's a lot of different dies and a vast number of DDFs!

Here the precise meaning of DDF depends on the design but, in general, differences in shade, perf, watermark, phosphor etc. are all excluded.

However, the GVI dark colours/light colours are distinguished and the QEII dark/light brown Wilding shades are distinguished where they have been clearly identified.

Some records are still incomplete e.g. for example, for the QV 2.5d plate 17 there are records of 20 dies where it's unknown which colour has been recorded.

Every month new dies and DDF examples are identified and these totals continue to climb slowly.
