Hi all, im not even convinced these have any philatelic relevance but they seemed to have pride of place in a very old asian collection I recently purchased, maybe just the previous owners bookmarks. Can anyone enlighten me to what they actually are? thanks

I *think* I've seen something like this before, but my memory is fuzzy on it.
First, I'm reasonably confident this is Japanese, but wouldn't lay down a large bet on that.
Then, as I recall, the final answer from a native Japanese speaker was that this is related to either (I just can't remember precisely) seeking a fortune from a fortune-teller, or else that this is what someone paid for leaving money to a temple for good fortune.
But I would welcome being corrected by someone who has a better idea about it.
One other guess is that this is late 19th century or perhaps early 20th.
Sorry I'm not of more help on this. |

They use very specialized font for official chops called "Ten-sho" font (Ten-sho-tai) ? https://goscf.com/t/64258#558862 br / TIP : Suggest changing thread title "Unidentified Japanese Items" or similar. |

Rod, Try looking at 1 November 1947. In Michel, that stamp is listed as part of the 1846/1947 definitives set, but is listed separately in mini-sheet form on 1 November 1947. Click to enlarge |

I should also mention, my Japanese is practically non-existent, but I believe the notation at middle bottom is Showa 22.11, meaning November (11) 1947 (Showa 22 in the Japanese calendar). |

Hi, Rodney --
I have a feeling you're asking a more complex question that I'm not entirely understanding, but here's the simple stuff:
The souvenir sheet is Scott 395 (in ultramarine). 2021 cv: $4.75 mnh or used
In Sakura, it's C115 (not listed with the definitives, but in the commemoratives section). 2021 cv: ¥600 mint, ¥1000 mnh, ¥1200 used
I have a feeling your question has to do with the color variations -- if the s/s is priced with color variations? |

Michel comes through once again....Bravo. Thanks Postmaster 120 euros for a FDC, wow. I'll post if I find it in Sakura. They break up a lot of their listings into sub headings, throughout the catalogue. |

Rodney, you're so good at this stuff, that that's why I was thinking you were asking a more complicated question!
But welcome to my world, where I miss the obvious thing all the time! |
