Trying to decide if this Canada 1c (Sc 14) has something off with the bottom of the "O" in ONE CENT. It appears abnormally thin on the left bottom side to me. I saw mention of the "Q" flaw as variety 14iv but that flaw doesn't seem to match as pictured in Unitrade that affects the line under the "O" = perhaps it is a late variant? Looking at the flyspecker site didn't find a good match either.

Opinions?

Hi gmot

May be an inking problem...It may be a progressively worn plate.
I will show you of mine....Left one is thinish closer to yours and the right is more thicker...Maybe possible plate wear..???
Just an opinion.

Robert

Ummm..Also check out the perforations on your 14...I have noticed a none catalouge possible different perforation.

Here are three different Q-flaws. They are the same position on the plate. The first is an early state, Whitworth's Flaw la. The second is a later state of the plate, Whitworth's Flaw 1b. The last one is an even later state of the plate, Whitworth's Flaw 1c.

Q-flaw 1a:

Q-flaw 1b:

Q-flaw 1c:

I checked my 12 examples,
all show a completed "O"
I would have yours as an EFO.

Thanks all. Perfs measure 12.2x12.2, so I'd assume a late printing then with some deviation from the expected 12x12. Looks like it somewhat resembles the late Q flaw, I can see a small nick in the oval frame below. In any case, interesting item.
