Canada Scott # 130b is a scarce 3 cent carmine dry printed Die II coil stamp. However, it appears that many copies may actually be Canada Scott # 184 with trimmed off horizontal perforations. Traces of these perforations along with slightly slanted irregular cut horizontal edges can be noted on many of them. Even certified examples can be somewhat questionable. Finding copies with both top and bottom imperforate horizontal sides being large/wide can be challenging.

Noted in Scott
I had never seen one before.
Question, can the width of the paper in the coil, be a standard width?
Is that anyway of ID?
Or, a reliable width, or are they random?

All the images of the item on ebay look dodgy to me, $300 to $600

For me, I would expect more meat of the selvedge, top and bottom.

I have 49 Canadian coils in my collection, ONLY the QE2 coils
have the vignette central in the coils.
Most have a thin edge of selvedge, with a thicker one other side.
That may be just a result of my standard of stamp though.

The Admiral Coils are notoriously poorly centred vertically so it is difficult to find one that is perfect. In this case, the three cent, perf 12 x 8, was a provisional created from remaining stocks that had been vertical perf 8 to create coils. The horizontal, Perf 12, was added years later. If you look at the two stamps seperately, you can see how someone might try to manufacture a false coil.

However, if you place them side by side, you can see that there is a a visual difference in the height of the stamp. The coil is 25mm high. From perf to perf, there is a scant 24 mm. The only possible way of manufacturing a coil is to use the top or bottom margin of the sheet, trim the perfs off one edge and then trim the other margin at an exact measurement.

Possible, but difficult. Rod222 made the best suggestion. Measure or even do a visual side by side comparison and that will sort t out.

Stamps are from my collection. The coil is not a 130b but a Die 1.
